Democrats are apologists. Period. And contemporary Democrats don’t have balls. Period.
Please do not stop reading. Stay with me. I’ll convince you.
The last time I checked, every Democrat that has been embroiled in one scandal or the other, for the past 8 years, has acquiesced to pressures to resign their position. And resign they did. Republicans? Naaaaaaaaaaaa.
When the lid blew on former Governor Mark Sanford’s love trip to Argentina, typically there were calls for him to resign as governor of South Carolina. Did he? For where? Typical unapologetic republican, he not only sat out his term as governor, he is now a congressman in the US House of Representative. Remember the “You Lie!” asshole? The guy that shouted down on President Obama during his first SOTU speech in 2009? There were calls for him to resign too. Did he? Of course, not. The Texas Agriculture commissioner in one of his tweets during the general election campaign called Secretary Clinton the C word. And he’s still using the platform our tax money provides to peddle fake news, sexism, and bigotry. When the C word made national news, he wasn’t forced out. He’s still in office. Should I continue? Talk about LePage, the character that occupies the Governor’s Mansion in Maine. With all the filth that come out of the guy’s mouth, you would expect him to bow to political pressures and resign. No. He’s a republican. They are unapologetically what they are and no one can make them pay a political price for what they do and say. But you cant say that about Democrats. Apologists.
Donald Trump was the only presidential candidate in modern history that did not release his tax returns during the general election. And Democrats allowed that to fly. If he were to be a Democrat, Republicans would not allow that to happen. They would peddle the most horrifying conspiracy theory about the reason he didn’t want America to see his tax returns until he is forced to release them. They would say he is a major financier of ISIS, they would say he is the patron of KKK, they would say he is involved with funding lone wolf terrorists in the homeland, they would say he is involved in child sex trafficking, they would say he is a satanist and a major financier of the church of satan. They would peddle every conceivable lie and cook up every imaginable conspiracy theory and dump those shit on a daily basis on Fox News, until he is forced to release his tax returns. But Democrats doesn’t play dirty politics. They play selense. And look at the result! Poor ignorant Democrats.
When President Obama was elected in 2008, he was the first person of African descent to be elected to the Office of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States of America. But he will not be the last. He’s just a forerunner to better presidents of African origin.
Now prior to 2008, white privilege has been and is still the order of the day in America. America in its 233 years before Obama’s inauguration was governed by white people and they instituted policies and programs that primarily benefited white people. Others were made to settle for the crumbs that fell off the white man’s table. Recent studies have shown that it will take the Negro 228 years to catch up economically with the white man. And the white man is daily plotting to make that even impossible.
But that is not what this piece is about.
Now, when a group of people, a particular race, is so marginalized as the Negro is in America, and suddenly one of their own is elected to become the leader of the land, you would expect the new leader to at the least institute policies that will help the marginalized become partakers of the national cake. And that was what was expected of President Obama. Blacks and Whites alike. Obama was expected at the least to institute policies that will help African Americans climb out of economic oblivion as well as use his justice department to protect our lives. Bad white folks were even afraid that President Obama was gonna use his presidential powers to come after them. Then came Cambridge Massachusetts. And white people figured Obama out. All words and no substance. And the bad ones got emboldened. You know the rest of the story.
How could you apologize when you were right? He was right to say that the Cambridge police officer that arrested a black man in his own house acted stupidly. He was right! The police officer was stupid. Plain and simple. Having established that Professor Gates broke into his own house yet proceeded anyways to arrest him. But Obama made his honest and correct comment on the issue and white America exploded on television and online. I remember John King of CNN asking why Obama as the first African American president should make a comment like that. You can almost infer from white America that Obama should know his place. He’s supposed to be a symbolic figure and not a substantive president. Why would he suggest that a wronged African American was wronged when the man was actually wronged? Why would he try to speak up for the oppressed? It was Obama’s moment as an elected president with unequivocal mandate to assert himself in America’s political discourse. For a person that knows too well the face, color, and different strands of racism, now to have the mandate and power to roll back on injustice and then be presented by fate early in his presidency the opportunity to do just that. Rather than seize the opportunity and stand up for his conviction, what is right, he allowed himself to be boxed in. And for the flimsy excuse that he doesn’t want all that “acted stupidly” stuff to derail his agenda, he went on TV and apologized. For what? That was the moment America needed to have an honest conversation about race relations in this country. And he was chosen by fate to lead that conversation. And just as he developed cold feet against Assad, he couldn’t put up a fight. His action emboldened the bad guys who were once afraid. Appeasement always make the aggressor more aggressive and Trayvon Martin, Eric Gardner, Tamir Rice, Laquan McDonald, Sandra Bland, Alton Sterling, Michael Brown, Kajuan Raye, Philando Castile and many more African Americans have paid with their lives for that stupid mistake President Obama made, the same way people in Aleppo are continuing to pay with their lives for his red line retreat.
Like I already said, white privilege has been the order of the day in America. Nobody makes any apology for that. I mean white people say it out loud on the public sphere unashamedly. But mention affirmative action, a miniscule resemblance of white privilege, but for minorities, and you see the daggers drawn. There are Negroes who are as good and even better than the Jimmy Fallons, Jimmy Kimmels, Seth Myers, and Stephen Colberts of our time. But are they given the opportunity? I mean it took Stephen Colbert over a year to find his rhythm on the late night show. But we all patiently waited and supported him until he got it right. But how long was Larry Wilmore tolerated in his Comedy Central platform before he was booted out? “You have to be…twice as good as them to get half of what they have.”
For his 8 years in office, President Obama, contrary to everybody’s expectation, neither instituted any program that empowered African Americans economically nor protected our lives. And that is so shameful. Normally, people run for office to effect a change, and not to continue the status quo. And change, especially the ones that have far-reaching consequences, requires a fight or the ultimate sacrifice to make it happen. And to be ready to put up that fight or pay that ultimate price, you must believe that what you are fighting for is an absolute right. You must have a conviction. That conviction drove Lyndon Johnson to pull all the levers of the presidency including sacrificing a second term in order to pass the Civil Right Act. That conviction drove Martin Luther King Jr. to his assassination. And that conviction condemned Nelson Mandela to 27 years behind bars. So I ask: What conviction did Obama ride on to the Oval Office, especially regarding the oppressed Black people for which he is one?
He had two Negroes occupy the office of the attorney general in succession. And neither of them brought to justice one rogue police officer who indiscriminately shot and killed a black person. I was listening to the Diane Rehm Show the other day on NPR and there was a debate about what would be the fate of civil liberties in a new justice department headed by Jeff Sessions. And a Republican guy on the panel asked how many rogue police officers the Obama’s justice department has brought to justice. And the Democratic Party strategist on the panel was dead silent. And that was telling? Obama couldn’t get us out of economic oblivion with the powers of the presidency. Obama couldn’t protect our lives through his justice department. Why was Obama even a president?
I listened on radio last week when President Obama had his last press conference for 2016. In the press conference he explained the reason why we are sitting on the sidelines while atrocities are carried out in Syria. He said there is Russia, which is a world power involved and he doesn’t want to cross Russia. There is also Iran, which is a regional power and he doesn’t want to cross Iran. And finally that the intervention will not come on the cheap. Listening to him explain all these away, you’ll wonder if America has sets of values and principles that define us. Do we fight for our values only when there is no opposition? Do we fight for our values only when it is easy to fight for? If our values are such a triviality that is determined by circumstances, are they values at all or are they just hobbies that we pick up whenever it suits us? But that explains his reluctance to conceive and implement economic policies and programs that could have helped the Negro because he expected a fight from right wing politicians across the country who want the Negro to remain suppressed. That explains his desire to diminish the relevance of the presidency because he thought honoring his red line ultimatum to Assad will cost him military spending and probably a drop in approval rating. And that explains also his willingness to be the first black president to have under his watch the worst carnage on black lives by police because he doesn’t want to stand up to people like Rudy Giuliani and company who sees black lives as something doesn’t even worth a peru. But they will fight you anyways, Mr President, just because you are Black. So why not pick a substantial fight with them that by chance can result in something worthwhile for the country because the Negro’s success story is America’s success story? Ask Eminem.
I am so proud as a Negro to know that the next Negro president of this great nation will restore America to its glory days when we were living in a unipolar world. There used to be a time when we were both militarily and economically unrivaled. There used to be a time when we consumed 80% of our products. There used to be a time when you walk into a bar in a foreign land and announce that you are American that such carries admiration and reverence with it. Our next Negro president will rebuild our economy and make it even more robust than the Clinton-era economy. Though he will pursue a realist foreign policy, but when barbaric killings such as the one ongoing in Aleppo occurs in any part of the world, he will not think twice before sending forth our military, a force of good, to intervene to liberate the people. He will implement policies and institute programs that will get the Black man out of economic oblivion and empower him politically. And he will not apologize for that because it is the right thing to do. He will work hard to make sure that ALL Americans are actually equal before the law and that no American life matters more than the other. He will be, the American president of the century.
Let the debate continue…
